Shape and Alignment of Mandibular Incisors

Abstract
|
|
|
It has been known that mandibular incisors had distinctive tooth shape, like as the mesiodistal dimension and the mesiodistal/faciolingual dimension, according to the alignment of mandibular incisors.
From the casts of 102 persons, I measured values of the mesiodistal dimension and the mesiodistal/ faciolingual dimension. These measurements were divided into the perfect alignment group and the crowding group.
The major conclusions may be listed below:
1. Among the 102 persons 43 persons revealed perfect alignment of mandibular incisors and 59 persons had some crowdings in the segment of mandibular incisors.
2. The differences of means between the perfect alignment group and the crowding group of mesiodistal dimension and mesiodistal/faciolingual dimension in central and lateral incisor were very high significant.
3. It was better to use the combination of the mesiodistal dimension and mesiodistal/faciolingual dimension as a representative factor of mandibular incisors alignment than to use the mesiodistal dimension or mesiodistal/faciolingual dimension alone
